About Sewer Lateral Help

Sewer Lateral Help is an independent guide to sewer lateral rules, starting with San Mateo. It is published by Baysix Media. It is not the City, and it is not a plumbing contractor.

Why this site exists

San Mateo's sewer lateral rules are spread across an ordinance, administrative regulations, an inspection form and a program page that changes every fiscal year. Homeowners usually meet them under pressure: a closing date, a permit, a failed report. This site puts the rules in one place, in plain language, with the source for each one, starting with the requirements guide.

Who publishes it

Sewer Lateral Help is published by Baysix Media, a web design and local marketing company in Northern California. We are not lawyers, plumbers or City staff. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or paid by the City of San Mateo.

How we check the rules

  • Every City rule on this site comes from an official City source: the municipal code, the administrative regulations, the inspection form or the City's program pages.
  • Each rule is stored once, with the date we last checked it against the source, and every page that uses it shows that date.
  • Cost sharing details are rechecked monthly; ordinance and form details at least quarterly, and whenever the City publishes a new fiscal-year program.
  • When a rule changes, we keep the old version as history rather than quietly overwriting it.
  • Where City sources disagree or are unclear, we say so on the page instead of picking an answer.

How requests are handled

When the request form is open, a person at Baysix Media reads every request and replies. We do not have contractor partners yet, and we will say so plainly when that changes. We share a request with a contractor only if you tick the referral box, and we don't sell personal information. Details are in the privacy policy.

The City of San Mateo does not recommend contractors. Whoever you hire, check their license with the Contractors State License Board.

What this site is not

It is not legal advice, and its tools give informational results, not determinations. The City and licensed professionals decide what applies to your property. See the terms of use.
